Secondary schools in Northampton are seeking a versatile and committed Lead Design & Technology Technician to support the DT department and lead a small team of technicians from September 2026.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is proactive, adaptable, and eager to play a key role in supporting high-quality teaching and learning within a busy and creative department.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and support a small team of DT technicians, ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the department
Prepare, maintain, and organise tools, machinery, and materials for practical lessons across Design & Technology
Work closely with teaching staff to ensure all resources are in place to deliver high-quality, practical lessons
Support across Art, Resistant Materials, and (desirable but not essential) Food Technology when required
Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, providing technical support and guidance
Ensure health and safety procedures are followed at all times, including equipment checks and risk assessments
Manage stock control, ordering, and organisation of departmental resources
Provide administrative support to the department where needed
Contribute to displays, exhibitions, and celebration of student work
Support the maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery
About the Role:
We are looking for a versatile and enthusiastic member of staff to support the school's Design & Technology department and lead a small team of technicians. The successful candidate will be an integral part of the team, working closely with teachers to ensure they have everything needed to deliver a first-class education and that students are fully supported in their practical learning.
While experience in a similar role is beneficial, it is not essential. However, the successful applicant will be required to undertake specialist training provided by the school to ensure they can confidently and safely operate DT machinery and equipment.
