Job Description

Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant

Milton Keynes | Full-Time | September Start | Temporary to Permanent Opportunities

Are you an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding new role in Milton Keynes?

Tradewind Recruitment is working with a range of welcoming specialist schools, alternative provisions and inclusive mainstream settings across Milton Keynes that are seeking dedicated Specialist SEN Teaching Assistants to join their teams. These opportunities are available on a full-time basis, with both long-term and temporary-to-permanent roles available for the right candidates.

As a Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in helping pupils with additional needs access learning, develop independence and feel safe, understood and supported throughout the school day. You may work on a one-to-one basis or support small groups of pupils within a classroom environment.

The schools we work with support children and young people with a variety of needs, including:

  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)
  • ADHD and behaviour needs
  • Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
  • Moderate, Severe and Profound Learning Difficulties
  • Physical disabilities and complex medical needs
  • Sensory processing needs
  • Pupils with Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

Your responsibilities may include supporting pupils with learning activities, adapting resources, promoting communication and social skills, implementing behaviour and pastoral strategies, assisting with personal care where required, and helping pupils regulate their emotions during challenging moments. You will work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral teams to ensure every pupil receives consistent and meaningful support.

We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience in SEN schools, alternative provision, care, youth work, psychology, social work, speech and language support, or mental health settings. Experience using PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, sensory strategies, Team Teach or de-escalation techniques would be highly beneficial, although training can be provided.

To be considered, you will need a patient, resilient and proactive approach, along with a genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs. An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service is desirable, although Tradewind Recruitment can support successful applicants through the application process.

In return, Tradewind Recruitment offers competitive daily rates, access to free professional development through the National College, ongoing support from a dedicated SEN consultant, and the opportunity to work in a role where you can make a genuine difference every day.
