Learning Support Assistant - Northampton
Supporting Students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH)

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join one of our well-established partner schools in Northampton, supporting students with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a supportive yet dynamic environment and is committed to making a real difference in the lives of students who require additional emotional, behavioural and academic support. The school prides itself on providing a structured, therapeutic and inclusive setting where young people can grow in confidence, develop self-regulation skills, and access the curriculum in a safe and understanding environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs

  • Assisting pupils with emotional regulation, communication and behaviour strategies

  • Building trusting, consistent relationships to promote engagement and resilience

  • Working closely with teachers, behaviour mentors and pastoral staff

  • Supporting personalised learning plans and adapting resources where necessary

  • Encouraging positive routines, attendance and a readiness to learn

  • Promoting a safe, inclusive and supportive classroom environment

Ideal Candidates Will Have:

  • A patient, empathetic and positive approach

  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills

  • Experience in SEMH, mental health support, youth work or related roles (desirable but not essential)

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people
