Mental Health Support Assistant

Salary: Dependent on experience

Tradewind Recruitment is currently seeking a compassionate and dedicated Mental Health Support Assistant to work within a supportive school setting. This role is ideal for someone passionate about mental health, emotional wellbeing, and supporting young people to succeed both academically and emotionally.

The Role

As a Mental Health Support Assistant, you will work closely with pupils who require additional emotional and behavioural support, helping them to manage challenges and engage positively with learning.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for students with mental health and emotional needs

  • Supporting pupils experiencing anxiety, trauma, low mood, or emotional regulation difficulties

  • Assisting with behaviour management and classroom engagement

  • Implementing strategies set out by the SENCO and external professionals

  • Promoting a safe, calm, and inclusive learning environment

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Passionate about supporting mental health and wellbeing

  • Calm, patient, and empathetic

  • Experienced working with children or young people (education, care, youth work, or mental health settings)

  • Confident supporting students with SEMH needs

  • Interested in a career in education, psychology, counselling, or mental health services

This role is well suited to graduates or individuals with backgrounds in psychology, social care, youth work, or support roles.
