Are you a resilient and empathetic individual dedicated to supporting the mental health and emotional well-being of young people? We are seeking a Specialist SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school community in Blackpool.

This role is ideal for those who understand that "behaviour is communication." You will be working with students who face significant barriers to learning, providing them with the emotional stability and academic support they need to succeed.

The Role: Emotional & Academic Support

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, your daily responsibilities will include:

  • One-to-One Interventions: Supporting specific students with complex emotional needs, helping them navigate the school day.

  • De-escalation: Utilising trauma-informed strategies to manage challenging behaviours and promote emotional regulation.

  • Nurture Group Support: Assisting in small-group settings focused on social skills, confidence building, and emotional literacy.

  • EHCP Tracking: Monitoring student progress against their Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP) targets and reporting to the SENCO.

  • Crisis Management: Being a calm and consistent presence for students during moments of distress.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: A background in SEMH support, youth work, or residential care is highly desirable.

  • Resilience: The ability to remain calm and professional in high-pressure or confrontational situations.

  • Empathy: A deep understanding of the impact of trauma and mental health on a young person's behaviour.

  • Blackpool Connection: A commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of local Blackpool youth.

  • Qualifications: Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification is preferred, but we value experience and character above all else.

Why Apply?

  • Flexible Start Dates: Begin your journey in June 2026 for a summer induction or start fresh in September 2026.

  • Competitive Pay: Transparent, weekly pay with no hidden umbrella fees.

  • Professional Growth: Access to specialist CPD in Team-Teach, Mental Health Awareness, and Trauma-Informed Practice.

  • Impact: The opportunity to build life-changing relationships with students who need it most.
