Special Needs Teaching Assistant - Secondary School

Contract: Full-Time | Permanent

We are working in partnership with a well-established secondary school in Wellingborough that is seeking to appoint a compassionate and committed Special Needs Teaching Assistant to join its team on a permanent basis from September 2026. The Role

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support for students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Supporting students with Autism, ADHD, dyslexia, speech and language needs, SEMH, and other additional learning needs

  • Working closely with teachers to deliver engaging, inclusive, and accessible lessons

  • Helping students develop confidence, independence, and resilience both academically and socially

  • Encouraging positive behaviour and supporting students' emotional wellbeing throughout the school day

  • Adapting learning activities and resources to meet individual education plans and learning needs

  • Building positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure every learner receives the support they need

  • Helping to create a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment where all students can flourish

We Are Looking For Someone Who

  • Has GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

  • Is patient, caring, and able to adapt their approach to meet individual student needs

  • Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Can build positive, trusting relationships with young people

  • Is proactive, reliable, and enjoys working as part of a supportive team

  • Can confidently support positive behaviour in line with school policies

  • Has experience working with children or young people in education, care, youth work, coaching, or similar settings (desirable but not essential)

  • Is eligible to work in the UK and willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check
