Job Description
Construction Tutor - Alternative Provision School
Northamptonshire
£30,000 per annum | Temp-to-Perm | 4-Day Working Week
Recruitment managed by Tradewind Recruitment
Are you a skilled Construction Tutor or experienced tradesperson looking to inspire the next generation? Do you want to use your industry knowledge to make a genuine difference to young people's lives while enjoying an excellent work-life balance?
Tradewind Recruitment is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of an innovative Alternative Provision school seeking a passionate Construction Tutor to join their dedicated team on a temp-to-perm basis.
This is a fantastic opportunity to teach practical construction skills to students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 who require an alternative approach to education. The young people you will support are unable to access mainstream education for a variety of reasons, including permanent exclusion, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, special educational needs (SEN), school refusal, and other complex barriers to learning.
The school's aim is to re-engage students with education through meaningful, hands-on vocational learning that builds confidence, develops practical skills, and prepares them for future employment or further education.
One of the biggest benefits of this role is the school's exciting move to a 4-day working week. Working 8:30am - 4:30pm across four days, you'll benefit from an additional day each week to achieve a healthier work-life balance. Whether you choose to spend that extra day with family, pursue hobbies, or continue working within the construction industry to keep your practical skills current, this role offers the flexibility to do so.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging and practical construction lessons to KS3 and KS4 students.
- Teaching core construction skills in a safe and supportive workshop environment.
- Building positive relationships with students who may have had previous negative experiences of education.
- Encouraging personal development, teamwork, resilience, and employability skills.
- Differentiating learning to meet individual needs and EHCP outcomes where appropriate.
- Working closely with pastoral and SEN teams to support each student's progress and wellbeing.
- Promoting high expectations while maintaining a calm, nurturing learning environment.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience working within the construction industry and/or delivering construction training or education.
- A recognised construction qualification (or significant industry experience).
- Experience working with young people, ideally within education, Alternative Provision, or SEN settings.
- Excellent behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
- A patient, resilient, and adaptable approach.
- A passion for helping vulnerable young people achieve success.
- A teaching qualification (or willingness to work towards one) is desirable but not essential depending on experience.
In return, you will receive:
- A competitive salary of £30,000 per annum.
- The opportunity to secure a permanent position following a successful temporary period.
- A unique 4-day working week, offering an exceptional work-life balance.
- The chance to continue working within the construction industry on your additional day if desired.
- Ongoing support from your dedicated Tradewind Recruitment consultant.
- Access to over 2,500 CPD courses through The National College.
- The opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of young people by providing them with valuable vocational skills and renewed confidence for the future.
If you're passionate about construction and want to help young people discover new opportunities through practical learning, we'd love to hear from you.
