Job Description
Employability & PSD Tutor - Alternative Provision School
Northamptonshire
Temp-to-Perm | 4-Day Working Week
Recruitment managed by Tradewind Recruitment
Are you passionate about preparing young people for life beyond the classroom? Do you have experience delivering Employability, Personal & Social Development (PSD), or life skills programmes? If you're looking for a rewarding role where you can genuinely transform the futures of vulnerable young people while enjoying an outstanding work-life balance, this could be the perfect opportunity.
Tradewind Recruitment is proud to be working with a forward-thinking Alternative Provision school seeking an enthusiastic Employability & PSD Tutor to join their team on a temp-to-perm basis.
This rewarding position involves supporting students across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 who are unable to access mainstream education due to a range of circumstances, including permanent exclusion, social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs, special educational needs (SEN), school refusal, and other complex barriers to learning. The school is committed to helping every student re-engage with education by developing the confidence, resilience, and essential life skills needed to succeed in adulthood.
As an Employability & PSD Tutor, you'll deliver engaging lessons that equip students with the practical knowledge and personal skills they'll need for future education, apprenticeships, employment, and independent living. Whether you're helping students write their first CV, preparing them for interviews, exploring career pathways, or teaching topics such as emotional wellbeing, communication, financial awareness, healthy relationships, and personal responsibility, you'll play a key role in shaping positive futures.
One of the standout benefits of this opportunity is the school's exciting transition to a 4-day working week. Working 8:30am to 4:30pm across four days, you'll benefit from an additional day each week to focus on your own wellbeing, spend time with family, pursue further professional development, or continue working in another role if you wish. The school believes that supporting staff wellbeing leads to the very best outcomes for students.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering engaging Employability and Personal & Social Development (PSD) lessons to KS3 and KS4 students.
- Supporting learners to develop confidence, resilience, communication, and independence.
- Teaching employability skills including CV writing, interview preparation, workplace expectations, teamwork, and career planning.
- Delivering PSD topics such as emotional wellbeing, relationships, personal safety, budgeting, health, and citizenship.
- Creating an inclusive learning environment that encourages participation and personal growth.
- Building positive relationships with students who may have previously disengaged from education.
- Working collaboratively with pastoral, SEN, and safeguarding teams to support each learner's individual needs.
- Monitoring progress and celebrating achievements, both academically and personally.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Experience delivering Employability, PSD, PSHE, Life Skills, Careers Education, or similar programmes.
- Experience working with young people, ideally within Alternative Provision, SEN, mainstream education, youth work, or community settings.
- A strong understanding of the barriers faced by vulnerable young people.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach to behaviour management.
- A passion for helping young people develop the skills they need to succeed beyond school.
- A teaching qualification is desirable but not essential for candidates with relevant experience.
In return, you'll receive:
- The opportunity to secure a permanent contract following a successful temporary period.
- A fantastic 4-day working week, offering an excellent work-life balance.
- Ongoing support from your dedicated Tradewind Recruitment consultant throughout your placement.
- Free access to over 2,500 CPD courses through The National College to support your continued professional development.
- The opportunity to make a genuine difference by helping young people overcome barriers, rediscover their potential, and prepare for successful futures.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an educator, careers adviser, youth worker, mentor, or tutor who believes that education is about more than academic achievement. If you're passionate about developing confidence, life skills, and future opportunities for young people, we'd love to hear from you.
