Pastoral Leader - Secondary School - Northampton

We're recruiting on behalf of a friendly and well-established secondary school in Northampton that is looking to appoint a Pastoral Leader from September 2026. This permanent role would suit someone who is passionate about student wellbeing and enjoys working closely with pupils, families and staff to help students overcome challenges and achieve their potential.

As a Pastoral Leader, you'll take responsibility for the wellbeing, behaviour and attendance of a year group, becoming a familiar and trusted presence for students throughout the school day. No two days are the same, and you'll play an important part in creating a calm, supportive environment where students feel safe, valued and ready to learn.

The Role

  • Lead the pastoral support for a designated year group

  • Build strong relationships with students and provide day-to-day guidance and encouragement

  • Work with students to improve behaviour, attendance and engagement with learning

  • Meet regularly with parents and carers to discuss progress and put support plans in place where needed

  • Work alongside teachers, senior leaders and external agencies to ensure students receive the right support

  • Respond to safeguarding and welfare concerns in line with school procedures

  • Help create a positive school culture where students are encouraged to take responsibility for their choices

  • Support the delivery of assemblies, rewards, interventions and personal development initiatives

About You

  • Experience working with young people in a school, youth work, mentoring or pastoral setting

  • A calm, approachable and resilient manner

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • Confident dealing with challenging situations in a fair and consistent way

  • Organised, proactive and able to manage a varied workload

  • Committed to helping every student succeed, whatever their starting point
