Tradewind Recruitment is working with a supportive secondary school in Northampton that is looking to appoint a dedicated Attendance Officer to join their team from September 2026. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working with young people and wants to play an important role in removing barriers to education and improving student outcomes.

Attendance is at the heart of a student's success, and in this role you will be a key member of the pastoral team, helping the school monitor attendance, support families, and encourage students to develop positive routines around their education.

The Role

  • Monitor and track daily student attendance using the school's management information system (MIS)

  • Follow up on absences through phone calls, emails, and communication with parents/carers

  • Build positive relationships with students and families to encourage improved attendance

  • Work closely with pastoral teams, safeguarding staff, and senior leaders to support students with attendance concerns

  • Identify patterns of absence and help put effective support strategies in place

  • Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure information is recorded in line with school procedures

  • Prepare attendance reports and contribute to meetings around student progress and wellbeing

  • Liaise with external agencies, including the local authority, where required

About You

  • Experience working with young people in a school, pastoral, administrative, or community setting is desirable

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues

  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail

  • Confident using IT systems and managing data (experience with SIMS or similar MIS systems would be an advantage)

  • Able to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage a varied workload

  • A calm and professional approach when dealing with sensitive situations

  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and the importance of regular school attendance
