Tradewind Recruitment is seeking a compassionate and resilient Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary school in the Corby area. This rewarding role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning.

About the Role

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional emotional and behavioural support. You will play a vital role in helping pupils develop positive coping strategies, build confidence, and engage successfully in education. Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams, and SEN staff, you will help create a safe and nurturing learning environment where every student can thrive.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs.
• Build positive relationships that promote trust, engagement, and wellbeing.
• Support students in managing emotions and developing resilience.
• Assist with behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
• Encourage participation in lessons and wider school activities.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral teams to implement support plans.
• Monitor student progress and contribute to pupil reviews and interventions.
• Promote safeguarding, wellbeing, and inclusion across the school.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• Experience working with young people in education, youth work, care, support work, or mental health settings.
• A calm, patient, and empathetic approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• The ability to remain resilient and positive in challenging situations.
• An understanding of SEMH needs and the barriers some young people face.
• A genuine passion for supporting students' mental health and personal development.
