SEMH Teaching Assistant - Corby

Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a compassionate, resilient and enthusiastic SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a supportive school in Corby.

This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health needs and helping them overcome barriers to learning. The role would suit candidates with experience in education, youth work, care, support work, behaviour or mentoring.

The Role

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will provide support to students who may need additional help with their emotional wellbeing, behaviour, confidence and engagement in education.

You will work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to create a calm, positive and inclusive environment where students feel safe and supported.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to students with SEMH needs.

  • Support students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with young people.

  • Encourage students to engage positively with their learning.

  • Support students who may display challenging behaviour.

  • Help pupils develop confidence, independence and social skills.

  • Work closely with teaching and pastoral teams to understand individual needs.

  • Support the implementation of individual behaviour and learning plans.

  • Help maintain a safe, calm and supportive classroom environment.

The Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with children or young people.

  • Has an interest in SEMH, mental health, behaviour or pastoral support.

  • Is patient, empathetic and resilient.

  • Can remain calm and consistent when dealing with challenging situations.

  • Is confident building positive relationships with young people.

  • Is passionate about helping students overcome barriers to education.

  • Is keen to develop their experience within a school environment.

Previous school experience isn't essential - experience in youth work, care, residential support, mentoring, sports coaching or similar settings can be highly relevant.
