Tradewind Recruitment are working with a specialist school in Corby who are looking for a compassionate, resilient and dedicated Student Wellbeing & SEMH Mentor to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who understands that behaviour can often be a form of communication and is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
The Role
As a Student Wellbeing & SEMH Mentor, you will provide tailored support to pupils with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, helping them develop the confidence, emotional regulation and resilience needed to engage successfully with education.
Your responsibilities will include:
Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with SEMH needs.
Supporting young people experiencing anxiety, low self-esteem, emotional dysregulation and behavioural difficulties.
Building trusting and positive relationships with pupils who may have experienced challenges within education or their personal lives.
Helping students understand and manage their emotions in a safe and supportive environment.
Supporting pupils to develop positive coping strategies and emotional regulation skills.
Using a calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach when responding to challenging behaviour.
Encouraging students to develop confidence, resilience, independence and self-esteem.
Supporting pupils to re-engage with learning and overcome barriers to their education.
Working closely with teachers, pastoral staff, SENCOs and other professionals to provide consistent support.
Supporting students with social development, communication and relationship-building.
Maintaining a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment.
Following safeguarding procedures and contributing to appropriate records around pupil wellbeing and behaviour.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will:
Have a genuine passion for children and young people's mental health and wellbeing.
Have experience working with young people with SEMH, behavioural or additional needs.
Be patient, empathetic, resilient and emotionally aware.
Understand the relationship between mental health, behaviour and engagement in education.
Be confident supporting young people who may display challenging or distressed behaviour.
Have the ability to build positive relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
Be calm and consistent in their approach.
Have excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Be committed to helping young people recognise their strengths and reach their potential.
Previous experience in SEMH education, schools, youth work, residential care, mental health support, psychology, counselling, sports coaching or similar support environments would be beneficial.
