Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in the Corby area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is patient, resilient and committed to supporting young people who may face social, emotional and mental health challenges.

The Role

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with students who require additional support both inside and outside of the classroom. You will play an important role in helping pupils develop confidence, resilience and the skills needed to engage positively with education.

You will be supporting students who may experience:

  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs

  • Anxiety and low self-esteem

  • Emotional regulation difficulties

  • Behavioural challenges

  • Barriers to learning

  • Additional educational needs

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing one-to-one and small group support

  • Building positive and trusting relationships with students

  • Supporting emotional wellbeing and mental health

  • Encouraging engagement with learning and school activities

  • Assisting students with behaviour and emotional regulation strategies

  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and support staff

  • Helping to create a safe, nurturing and inclusive environment

  • Supporting students to achieve both academically and personally

The Ideal Candidate

  • Can build strong relationships and act as a positive role model

  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Are able to remain calm and professional in challenging situations

  • Are committed to helping students overcome barriers to learning

Experience within any of the following would be highly beneficial:

  • SEMH schools

  • SEN settings

  • Alternative Provision

  • Youth work

  • Residential childcare

  • Care and support work

  • Behaviour mentoring

  • Mental health support

  • Psychology-related roles

  • Education settings
