Job Description

Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) - Alternative Provision
Location: Towcester, Northamptonshire
Start Date: March 2026 | Full-Time | Permanent
Salary: Competitive salary (dependent on experience and qualifications)

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant ready to take the next step in your career?
Do you have the confidence, resilience, and leadership skills to support students who need a genuine second chance?

We are seeking a committed and confident Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a specialist Alternative Provision in Towcester on a full-time, permanent basis starting March 2026.

This provision supports students aged 11-16 who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. With a strong focus on structure, consistency, and restorative practice, the school works to rebuild confidence, improve behaviour, and re-engage young people with their learning.

This is a rewarding permanent opportunity to play a key leadership role within the classroom and make a lasting difference.

What the Role Involves:

  • Leading small group and whole-class sessions across Key Stages 3 and 4

  • Supporting the planning and delivery of differentiated and targeted learning

  • Delivering intervention programmes to raise attainment and engagement

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs and additional learning needs

  • Implementing behaviour management strategies and supporting de-escalation

  • Monitoring, tracking, and reporting on student progress

  • Acting as a positive role model with high expectations and clear boundaries

  • Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams, and external agencies

What We're Looking For:

  • HLTA status or significant secondary TA experience

  • Confidence leading lessons independently and managing behaviour effectively

  • Strong understanding of SEMH and trauma-informed approaches

  • A calm, consistent, and resilient approach

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people

  • Strong safeguarding awareness

What You'll Receive:

  • A secure, full-time permanent position

  • Competitive salary

  • Ongoing CPD and specialist training in behaviour, SEMH, and safeguarding

  • Supportive leadership and a collaborative team environment

  • Opportunities for career progression within alternative provision or wider education settings

  • The opportunity to make a measurable, long-term impact on students' lives

This Alternative Provision is built on the belief that exclusion does not define a young person's future. As an HLTA, you will be instrumental in delivering both academic progress and personal development, helping students rebuild trust in education and move forward positively.

If you're ready to take on a permanent HLTA role in Towcester starting March 2026, we would love to hear from you.
