A specialist Alternative Provision in Towcester is seeking a committed Functional Skills Maths Tutor to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis from March 2026.
This provision supports students aged 11-16 who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. Many arrive with gaps in learning, low confidence, and negative experiences of school. The setting offers structure, small class sizes, and a restorative approach to help students rebuild trust in education and achieve meaningful outcomes.
As the Functional Skills Maths Tutor, you will play a central role in delivering practical, accessible maths that prepares students for real-world success.
Your Key Responsibilities:
Deliver Functional Skills Maths from Entry Level through to Level 2
Design engaging, practical lessons focused on real-life numeracy skills
Break down barriers to learning for students who may feel anxious about maths
Prepare students for external assessments and qualification success
Monitor progress closely and adapt teaching to meet individual needs
Provide targeted intervention for students requiring additional support
Maintain clear expectations, routines, and positive behaviour standards
Work closely with pastoral and leadership teams to support holistic student development
We're Looking For Someone Who:
Holds QTS/QTLS or a recognised post-16 / Functional Skills teaching qualification
Has experience delivering Functional Skills Maths
Can make maths relatable, practical, and confidence-building
Is calm, resilient, and consistent in their approach
Has strong behaviour management skills
Is passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs
Believes in second chances and restorative practice
