We are working in partnership with a specialist Alternative Provision in Towcester seeking a dedicated Functional Skills English Tutor to join their team from March 2026 on a full-time, permanent basis.

This provision supports students aged 11-16 who have been permanently excluded from mainstream education. The setting focuses on rebuilding confidence, improving behaviour, and re-engaging learners through personalised pathways - with Functional Skills playing a crucial role in preparing students for further education, employment, and training.

This is a rewarding opportunity to deliver meaningful, practical English qualifications in a supportive and structured environment.

The Role:

  • Deliver engaging Functional Skills English lessons (Entry Level to Level 2)

  • Plan and deliver differentiated lessons tailored to individual needs

  • Support students in developing reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills

  • Prepare learners for Functional Skills assessments and qualifications

  • Track progress and provide constructive, motivating feedback

  • Adapt teaching approaches to meet SEMH and additional learning needs

  • Promote positive engagement and maintain high expectations within the classroom

  • Work closely with pastoral teams and senior leaders to support student development

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Qualified Teacher (QTS/QTLS) or experienced Functional Skills Tutor with relevant teaching qualification

  • Experience delivering Functional Skills English

  • Strong understanding of literacy intervention strategies

  • Confidence supporting students with SEMH needs and challenging behaviour

  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach

  • Committed to inclusive education and restorative practice

  • Strong behaviour management and communication skills
