SEMH Teaching Assistant - Secondary School

Pay rate: £92-£95 per day

Tradewind Recruitment are seeking a SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students in a secondary school on the outskirts of Kettering. This is a full-time, term-time only role with an immediate start, ideal for candidates who have experience supporting young people with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs or challenging behaviour.

You will be working alongside the SEN and pastoral teams to provide support for students aged 11-16 who require additional help to manage emotions, behaviour, and engagement in lessons. The school has a strong behaviour policy and a supportive staff team, making this a great opportunity for someone who is calm, resilient, and confident working in a secondary setting.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for students with SEMH needs

  • Support pupils in lessons to help them remain focused and engaged

  • Implement behaviour and support strategies set by the school

  • Build positive and professional relationships with students

  • Work closely with teaching staff, SENCO and pastoral team

  • Support students both in the classroom and in intervention settings

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school or care setting

  • Confidence managing behaviour and supporting vulnerable students

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • A patient, consistent and proactive approach

  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent) preferred

Essential safeguarding requirement:

Applicants must hold either a Child Only DBS on the Update Service or a Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service. Unfortunately, candidates without this in place cannot be considered for this position.
