Learning Support Assistant - Autism & Complex Needs

Location: Northampton
Salary: £92.56-£95 per day
Contract: Full-time, long-term
Start Date: ASAP

Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a supportive specialist setting in Northampton, supporting pupils with autism and complex needs.

The pupils may be non-verbal or have limited communication, so experience using communication approaches such as PECS and Makaton would be highly beneficial. The role will also involve supporting pupils with personal care and helping them regulate when they become dysregulated.

The Role

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with autism and complex needs
  • Supporting pupils who may be non-verbal or have limited communication
  • Using communication methods such as PECS, Makaton and visual supports
  • Supporting with personal care where required
  • Helping pupils manage and regulate their emotions and behaviour when they become dysregulated
  • Supporting pupils to access learning and engage in school activities
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils and providing consistent support
  • Working closely with teachers and the wider staff team to meet individual needs

Requirements

  • Previous experience supporting pupils or individuals with autism and complex needs
  • Experience supporting individuals who may be non-verbal or have communication difficulties
  • Experience with personal care
  • Knowledge or experience of PECS and/or Makaton is highly desirable
  • Confident supporting pupils who may become dysregulated
  • Patient, calm and adaptable approach
  • Previous experience within a specialist school, SEN setting, care or support environment
