Support and Inspire Pupils Within a Specialist ASD Provision

A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Northampton is looking to appoint an experienced SEN Teacher to join their specialist provision for an ASAP start.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about supporting young children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and creating a calm, nurturing and structured environment where every pupil can thrive.

The specialist provision supports EYFS and KS1 children aged 4-7, who have an EHCP for communication and interaction needs, specifically ASD. The successful teacher will play an important role in supporting pupils' academic progress alongside their communication, social, emotional and personal development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the individual needs of pupils within the specialist ASD provision

  • Create a calm, structured and nurturing classroom environment where pupils feel safe, supported and ready to learn

  • Adapt teaching approaches, resources and activities to meet the needs of children with ASD

  • Support pupils to develop their communication, social interaction, independence and emotional regulation

  • Work closely with teaching assistants and wider school staff to provide consistent and effective support

  • Set and work towards individual pupil targets, including those identified within EHCPs

  • Monitor, assess and record pupil progress and use this information to inform future planning

  • Support pupils with sensory, behavioural and communication needs using appropriate strategies

  • Promote confidence, independence and positive relationships across the school

  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers and relevant professionals to support positive outcomes for pupils

Ideal Candidate

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent

  • Previous experience working with children with SEND, ideally including ASD

  • Experience teaching within EYFS and/or KS1

  • Strong understanding of autism and communication and interaction needs

  • Knowledge of effective strategies for supporting children with ASD

  • Patient, adaptable and nurturing approach to teaching

  • Confident managing behaviour in a calm, consistent and supportive manner

  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills

  • Passionate about helping children with additional needs achieve their full potential
