Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Full-Time | Long-Term Role
Tradewind Recruitment

Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for an SEMH Mental Health Support Assistant to join a specialist setting in Corby, working with young people who require additional support with their social, emotional and mental health needs.

We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in mental health and ideally previous experience supporting children or young people who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour, anxiety, confidence or engagement with education.

This is a rewarding role for someone who is able to build strong relationships while providing the consistency, patience and boundaries that young people within an SEMH environment may need.

Your Role Will Include:

  • Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and within small groups

  • Providing emotional and pastoral support throughout the school day

  • Helping students understand and regulate their emotions

  • Supporting young people during periods of heightened emotion or challenging behaviour

  • Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques

  • Encouraging students to engage positively with their learning

  • Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence

  • Building trusting and professional relationships

  • Providing consistent routines and boundaries

  • Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and other support professionals

  • Contributing to a positive, safe and supportive learning environment

What We're Looking For

We would particularly like to hear from candidates who have experience or knowledge within:

  • Mental health support

  • SEMH or specialist education

  • SEN/SEND

  • Behaviour support

  • Teaching Assistant or Learning Support roles

  • Youth work or mentoring

  • Pastoral support

  • Children's residential care

  • Social care

  • Psychology or counselling

  • Healthcare and support work

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional education career path. Experience supporting vulnerable young people, mental health needs or challenging behaviour can provide highly transferable skills for an SEMH environment.

You will need to be calm, patient, resilient and empathetic, while also being confident maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations.

  • Full-time and long-term opportunities

  • Potential temp-to-perm routes

  • Dedicated support from your Tradewind consultant

  • Free CPD and professional development

  • Free access to The National College after your first day worked
