SEMH Mental Health Support Assistant - Corby

Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for an SEMH Mental Health Support Assistant to join a specialist setting in Corby, working with young people who require additional support with their social, emotional and mental health needs.
This role is being offered on a 12-week temp-to-perm basis, giving you the opportunity to work within the school, get to know the students and team, and demonstrate your skills before progressing into a permanent position.
We are looking for someone who has a genuine interest in mental health and ideally previous experience supporting children or young people who may struggle with emotional regulation, behaviour, anxiety, confidence or engagement with education.
This is a rewarding role for someone who can build strong relationships while providing the consistency, patience and clear boundaries that young people within an SEMH environment may need.
Your Role Will Include:
Supporting students on a 1:1 basis and within small groups
Providing emotional and pastoral support throughout the school day
Helping students understand and regulate their emotions
Supporting young people during periods of heightened emotion or challenging behaviour
Using positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
Encouraging students to re-engage positively with learning
Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence
Building trusting and professional relationships
Providing consistent routines and boundaries
Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and other support professionals
Contributing to a positive, safe and supportive learning environment
What We're Looking For
We would particularly like to hear from candidates with experience or knowledge in:
Mental health support
SEMH or specialist education
SEN/SEND
Behaviour support
Teaching Assistant or Learning Support roles
Youth work or mentoring
Pastoral support
Children's residential care
Social care
Psychology or counselling
Healthcare and support work
You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional education career path. Experience supporting vulnerable young people, individuals with mental health needs or challenging behaviour can provide highly transferable skills for an SEMH environment.
You will need to be calm, patient, resilient and empathetic, while also being confident maintaining clear and appropriate boundaries.
