Mental Health Teaching Assistant - Corby
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Contract: Full-Time | Long-Term | Potential Permanent Opportunities
Salary: Competitive daily rates, dependent on experience
Agency: Tradewind Recruitment
Do You Have a Passion for Mental Health and Supporting Vulnerable Young People?
Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting Mental Health Teaching Assistants for a number of exciting opportunities within a specialist educational setting in Corby.
We are looking for compassionate, resilient and experienced individuals who understand the challenges faced by young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to use their experience in mental health, behaviour support, residential care or education to make a meaningful difference to young people's lives.
The students you will be supporting may experience anxiety, trauma-related difficulties, emotional dysregulation, attachment difficulties and behaviours that challenge. Many require additional support to build positive relationships, develop emotional resilience and engage successfully with education.
We are looking for individuals who understand that behaviour is often a form of communication and who can provide the patience, consistency and understanding needed to support young people effectively.
If you have experience supporting mental health or challenging behaviour and are looking for a rewarding role within education, we would love to hear from you!
The Role
As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, you will:
Provide one-to-one and small-group support to students with social, emotional and mental health needs.
Support young people experiencing anxiety, trauma-related difficulties, emotional dysregulation and challenging behaviour.
Build positive, trusting relationships with students who may struggle within traditional educational environments.
Help students develop emotional regulation strategies, resilience and confidence.
Recognise potential triggers and use appropriate de-escalation techniques to support students during challenging situations.
Encourage students to engage positively with lessons and educational activities.
Provide consistent emotional reassurance, encouragement and guidance.
Support students with additional needs, including autism, ADHD and associated learning difficulties.
Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral teams and other professionals.
Follow individual behaviour support plans and tailored learning strategies.
Encourage positive communication, social interaction and independence.
Maintain clear boundaries while demonstrating empathy, patience and understanding.
Monitor student progress, behaviour and emotional wellbeing.
Create a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.
Follow safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of all students.
What Are We Looking For?
We are particularly interested in candidates who have practical experience supporting individuals with mental health difficulties, emotional needs or challenging behaviour.
The ideal candidate will:
Have experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals with SEMH or mental health needs.
Understand the impact that trauma, anxiety and emotional difficulties can have on behaviour and learning.
Be confident supporting young people who may display distressed or challenging behaviour.
Have a calm, patient and empathetic approach.
Be able to build positive relationships with students who may find it difficult to trust others.
Understand the importance of consistency, boundaries and positive reinforcement.
Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Be resilient, adaptable and able to remain professional during difficult situations.
Be committed to safeguarding and supporting young people's wellbeing.
Have a genuine passion for making a difference within specialist education.
Previous school experience is desirable but not essential. We recognise that valuable experience supporting vulnerable young people can be gained in a variety of settings.
