SEN Teaching jobs across Nottingham

On a daily basis, you could be working with pupils who are physically disabled, have sensory difficulties, or have a learning difficulty such as Autism or Downs Syndrome. You will be helping the children with reading, writing, and other basic skills, as well as creative activities. Children with learning difficulties often find it hard to process information or understand tasks. SEN Teaching is one of the most rewarding jobs possible; not only will you be helping the pupils but you will be able to develop your knowledge and learn new things every day, with plenty of room for promotion and professional development. Your involvement with these children will of course go beyond the academic, as you support their social and emotional development too, often as their primary source of support.


Job responsibilities include:

  • Adapting conventional teaching to meet individual needs.
  • Making use of audio-visual materials when needed.
  • Working with parents and guardians, addressing development
  • Assessing work and development of pupils.
  • Using Braille or sign language where needed or assisting with personal care.
  • Attending reviews, staff meetings and training days.
  • Liaising with speech and language therapists, educational psychologists and physiotherapists.

Qualifications Required

To become an SEN Teacher you must be on possession of a Bachelor of Education Degree or a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. You can also do a Teacher Training course such as the School Centred Initial Teacher Training, the Graduate Teacher Programme or the Registered Teacher Programme.

What can I do to improve my prospects?
