Job Description
English SEMH Specialist Teacher - Full Time (Temp to Perm)
Location: Northampton | Secondary Alternative Provision
Tradewind Recruitment is working in partnership with a specialist client school in Northampton to recruit a committed and resilient English SEMH Specialist Teacher for a full-time, temp-to-perm position. This role is ideal for an experienced teacher or strong practitioner who is passionate about supporting secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs within an alternative provision setting.

Class sizes are small, allowing staff to build meaningful relationships and deliver highly tailored English lessons that re-engage learners who may have struggled in mainstream education. Pupils may present with challenging behaviours, gaps in learning, and low confidence, so a calm, consistent, and trauma-informed approach is essential.
As the English SEMH Specialist, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging English lessons aligned with the curriculum while adapting content to meet individual needs and abilities. You will work closely with pastoral staff, SEN professionals, and external agencies to support both academic progress and emotional development.
The ideal candidate will:
Hold QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification
Have experience teaching English at secondary level
Have proven experience working with SEMH pupils or within alternative provision (desirable)
Be confident managing behaviour and building positive relationships
Be patient, resilient, and passionate about inclusive education
What the school and Tradewind Recruitment offer:
Full-time role with a clear temp-to-perm pathway
Small class sizes and strong pastoral support
Competitive daily rates paid weekly
Ongoing CPD and SEMH-focused training
Dedicated support from an experienced Tradewind consultant
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of vulnerable young people while developing your career within specialist education.
