Mental Health Teaching Assistant
Location: Corby, Northamptonshire
Start Date: ASAP | Full-Time | Temporary to Permanent

Are you passionate about supporting young people with their mental health and emotional wellbeing? Are you looking to start a rewarding school-based role immediately, with the opportunity to secure a permanent position?

We are working in partnership with schools across Corby who are seeking dedicated Mental Health Teaching Assistants to join their teams as soon as possible. These full-time, temporary to permanent roles involve supporting students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs within inclusive, nurturing educational environments where wellbeing and pastoral care are a key priority.

About the Role:

  • Provide one-to-one and small-group support for pupils experiencing anxiety, low mood, behavioural challenges, trauma-related needs, or difficulties with emotional regulation

  • Support students in developing resilience, confidence, emotional literacy, and positive coping strategies

  • Work closely with class teachers, SENCOs, pastoral leads, and safeguarding teams to implement and review tailored support plans

  • Assist in delivering targeted interventions and wellbeing programmes within the school setting

  • Promote a calm, structured, and supportive learning environment throughout the school day, including during unstructured times

  • Monitor, record, and report on student progress in line with school policies and safeguarding procedures

  • Contribute to a whole-school approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing

We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with children or young people with social, emotional, or mental health needs in schools, youth work, care, or similar settings

  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach, with the ability to build strong, trusting relationships

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider school support team

  • A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures

  • Relevant qualifications or training in mental health, psychology, youth work, education, or a related field (desirable but not essential)
