Tradewind Recruitment are currently looking for a confident, reliable and resilient Cover Supervisor to join a specialist secondary school in Milton Keynes from September 2026.

The school supports secondary-aged students with a range of Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The setting provides a structured and supportive environment where positive relationships, consistency and individualised support are key to helping students engage with education.

The Role

As a Cover Supervisor, you will supervise classes across a range of subjects, ensuring students remain engaged and supported when their usual teacher is unavailable. You will be provided with lesson plans and resources, with your role focused on maintaining a positive learning environment and supporting students to complete their work.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising secondary-aged classes across different subjects.
  • Delivering pre-prepared lesson work and supporting students with their learning.
  • Managing behaviour calmly and consistently.
  • Building positive relationships with students.
  • Supporting students with SEN and SEMH needs.
  • Working closely with teachers and support staff.
  • Following school routines, policies and individual support strategies.
  • Helping to maintain a safe, structured and positive classroom environment.

The Ideal Candidate

The school is looking for someone who is patient, approachable and confident when working with young people. Previous experience as a Cover Supervisor, Teaching Assistant, Learning Mentor or within an SEN/SEMH setting would be beneficial, but is not essential.

You should have:

  • Experience working with secondary-aged students.
  • Confidence managing a classroom independently.
  • A calm and consistent approach to behaviour.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Resilience and the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • A genuine interest in supporting young people with additional needs.
