Tradewind Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Cover Supervisor specialising in Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) to join a supportive secondary school in the Corby area.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has experience working with young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges or additional emotional needs and is confident leading learning activities and managing a classroom environment.

The school is looking for someone who can build strong relationships with students, remain calm and consistent when managing challenging behaviour, and provide the structure and support students need to engage positively with their learning.

The Role

As an SEMH Cover Supervisor, you will play an important role in supporting students both academically and emotionally.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising classes in the absence of the regular teacher

  • Delivering pre-planned lessons and learning activities

  • Leading small-group activities and interventions

  • Supporting students with SEMH and behavioural needs

  • Building positive, trusting relationships with students

  • Supporting students with emotional regulation and positive behaviour

  • Maintaining a calm, structured and consistent classroom environment

  • Encouraging students to engage with their learning

  • Supporting students who may experience anxiety, emotional difficulties or barriers to learning

  • Managing challenging behaviour using a calm and consistent approach

  • Helping students develop confidence, resilience and independence

  • Working closely with teachers, pastoral teams and other support staff

  • Providing feedback on student engagement, behaviour and progress

  • Supporting the wider pastoral and SEMH provision within the school

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who has experience working with young people with SEMH needs and is confident delivering sessions or leading groups.

You may have experience as a:

  • Cover Supervisor

  • Behaviour Mentor

  • Teaching Assistant

  • SEMH Teaching Assistant

  • Learning Mentor

  • Youth Worker

  • Sports Coach

  • Residential Support Worker

  • Intervention Lead

  • Support Worker

  • Alternative Provision Practitioner

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Previous experience supporting young people with SEMH or behavioural needs

  • Experience delivering activities, sessions or learning to groups of young people

  • Strong behaviour management skills

  • The ability to remain calm and consistent in challenging situations

  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach

  • Confidence leading a classroom or group

  • A genuine passion for supporting young people's mental health and wellbeing

  • The ability to establish clear boundaries while maintaining positive relationships

  • A commitment to helping students overcome barriers to learning
